Instruments·Hard scope constraints

DISCIPLINE ENGINE

Enforces declared scope and behavior rules on agentic systems. Hard constraints over soft preferences.

DISCIPLINE ENGINE stops an agent from touching an out-of-scope domain, reaching for a prohibited tool, or breaking a stated rule mid-generation. It is the do-not backbone that makes a higher-trust instrument safe enough to ship.

The distinction it insists on is between a preference and a constraint. A prompt that asks a model to stay in scope is a preference, and a preference is a thing a model can talk itself out of. A constraint is checked outside the model, and failing it stops the action.

This is a quality gate with a different name. Medium-voltage switchgear does not get a second draft: every unit passes a gate and a person signs it, and the review is proportional to the consequence. The same shape holds when the unit is an agent action.
